Another Long Run

I tried to follow up my track workout with a 5 miler today. It was just painful. I think my shins were the worst they have been since I started running again. I felt great going in and was optimistic because I really felt no soreness from yesterday. I was mistaken.

I need to work on pacing. Again I went out too hard (thinking I was actually holding back a bit) and found myself about 15 seconds ahead of the pace I was on when I ran it in 39 minutes. I hit the half-way mark in 19:55. At this point I was kind of excited about lowering my time but it wasn't long before my calves tightened up and my shins were killing me. I had to stop and stretch and did so twice on the way back. I ended up stopping just shy of the finish (probably about 4.9 miles). I still feel the workout was a success considering what I put my body through yesterday. I gave it all I had and my time was still respectable for this point in my training.
