A friend of mine has offered to help me out in my efforts to get back in shape. He is an avid runner and has lots of experience with long distance. He recently purchased a watch that, among many things, tracks your distance through GPS. I asked him if he wouldn't mind running my usual trail with me today so I can know exactly how far it is... Well, it turns out my car is more accurate than I thought... The run is indeed 3.2 miles! Also, his nifty little watch tracks the percent grade of the trail (also done through GPS) and what I thought was a mostly uphill battle turns out to be a neutral run overall. Though I am battling hills throughout, the downhill portions are just as frequent. When I asked him if he thought this meant it is the same as running completely flat the whole time, he said he didn't think so. And neither do I. For reasons that aren't necessarily concrete... but still (what do you think mike?). And my time today was about 20 seconds faster than the previous time I ran going this direction (the opposite direction is easier because the big hills are first instead of last when I am completely exhausted):
3.2 miles(the hard way): 26.28
